Christmas Has Come to Classic Church Music!

I've just switched over from Advent to Christmas, now that the feast has begun in Asia and Australia. Thanks to everyone who listened to CCM during the Advent season, another record for this station! The playlist is much like last year, with some variations; I will post it when I return home from visiting family.

May you all have a blessed and joyful Christmastide, and please enjoy these Christmas favorites!

Advent Playlist Now Playing

It's Thanksgiving Day here in the US, and since I'll be away from the Internet for Advent I  I've decided to start the Advent playlist today.  After all, here in the States the pre-Xmas madness started, well, just after Hallowe'en, and we surely need an antidote to all of that.  I hope all of you find the music helps you to have an edifying and hopeful Advent season!

All Saints/All Souls Playlist Posted

I've activated the playlist for All Saints and All Souls today, a little early because I'm on the road soon.  The playlist will be posted soon, but it is substantially the same playlist as for this season in 2007.  As with previous iterations in this season, the All Saints/All Souls playlist is "composed" and not set to shuffle.

Obviously, by now I've discovered a way to upload music to the Live365 server using my new Mac.  I'm not liking it...using the Windows app to maintain playlists was so much easier, but I shall continue.  Thanks to all who were praying for "light in my darkness"!

Delay for New Playlist

Hi all, just a note explaining the delay in my posting a new playlist: my laptop died in late August and I got a Mac for a replacement.  Unfortunately, the software used to maintain Live365 playlists is not the same, actually it is sadly deficient for the Mac...and so I'm still looking for a software solution for maintaining playlists for Live365.  This situation may trump me for October, but I've got to find a solution in time for All Saints/All Souls...otherwise I might have to shut down.

Please bear with me as I feel my way through this difficulty.

Once again, every continent except for Antarctica was represented.  Heartfelt thanks to all listeners everywhere!

Playlist for Midsummer 2008

Before the actual playlist, a few notes. One of the most exciting things of the last few years was recently unwrapping a new Arbiter CD containing the complete recordings of Charles Tournemire, successor to César Franck at Ste. Clotilde Paris. These are the actual improvisations which Duruflé used to construct the published form played today. Furthermore, this really is Franck's organ, the original Cavaille-Coll of Ste. Clotilde prior to that instrument's "expansion" in 1933. That these recordings survive and are available on CD 80 years later is nothing short of miraculous.

Along with that, a reissue of the Vierne Symphonies as recorded by Pierre Cochereau at Notre Dame de Paris is also cause for excitement, at least for me. And lastly, in answer to the question, "Why are you playing so much Messiæn lately?" I will only say that it is in honor of his centenaire, 2008 containing the 100th anniversary of this important 20th Century composer's birth. You will note that the playlist contains that continuum, from Mendelssohn to Franck to Tournemire and Vierne to Messiæn and Alain and Duruflé, which is the great heritage of French organ music through the last two centuries.

This playlist is in "shuffle" play and is not presented in this order:

Now Playing Music for Lent

I've uploaded the new Lenten playlist to the Live365 server, and it is currently playing as Ash Wednesday begins in Asia. A listing of the complete playlist will be posted in the next day or so.

A punishing travel schedule since 1 January, a bout of the flu, a very short Epiphany season this year---all these factors resulted in our not having an Epiphany playlist this year. Next year I hope to do better!

Epiphany Playlist Delayed

Hi everyone, in case you're wondering why you're still hearing Christmas music: I was called out of town on business last weekend and I'm just getting back in town today, so I was unable to create the Epiphany playlist in time. I will be working on it and will switch over to the new playlist sometime this weekend. Thank you for your patience!

Where the Listeners Were in December 2007

One look at the Geo Stats for December '07 and I'm thrilled and humbled...these have been the most popular Advent and Christmas seasons yet for this station. Many thanks to all of you who listened during this time of year for CCM! We ended up at #14 among all classical stations on Live365, which given the more listened-to ones (mostly Professional stations, and this station is quite the opposite!) was no mean feat...thanks and God's blessings for all of you.

Here's the breakdown of listener venues for December among the US metro areas:

  1. Boston (Manchester) (we love Advent almost as much as Lent, LOL)
  2. Atlanta
  3. San Francisco - Oakland - San Jose
  4. New York City
  5. Albuquerque - Santa Fe
  6. Washington DC (Hagerstown)
  7. Los Angeles
  8. Albany - Schenectady - Troy
  9. Dallas - Fort Worth
  10. Chicago

And here are the top 10 countries for listeners in December:

  1. United States
  2. Canada
  3. United Kingdom
  4. Netherlands
  5. Germany
  6. Sweden
  7. Japan
  8. Barbados
  9. Qatar
  10. Mexico

Yes, I'm surprised about Qatar, and I'm glad to have some enthusiastic listenership in Barbados...may I visit please? it's cold here in Boston! =) In all, 67 countries had listeners to CCM in December, with 47 listening for more than 30 minutes during the month. Many, many thanks to all of you...now I'd best get busy on the Epiphany playlist, which will have its début by 0500 GMT (at the latest) on January 6.
